Dear Budapest group, as you could have noticed from the news at the last alignment meeting [1] we have the first cosmics available at 0T, and Gero has already started a first alignment of the PIxel large structure to see the effect (see slide 3 of [1]) while Nazar has also performed a first check of some basic track quantities [2] Nevertheless the big campaign of cosmics collected at 4T (CRAFT) will be during 5-14th February. Among the alignment tasks of this year you have agreed upon was to run the alignment with the very first data/CRAFT12 data using Millepede. Please prepare for it now to be able to provide feedback as soon as possible so that we will beable to update the alignment (especially the pixel position) for prompt reconstruction before the first physics pp data taking in April. Now, technically: 1. the dataset will be available at the Twiki: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/TrackerAlignment2012 #CRAFT12 2. Gero already set up a working version of the MP in 51X under: ALCA_TRACKERALIGN/MP/MPproduction/CMSSW 5 1 1 patch2 3. After the alignment will be necessary to validate the geometry with geometry comparison and track based validation (DMR): for this we kindly request Andreas Mussgiller (ex- Tk alignment software coordinator) to set up a working common validation area in 51X (we will point you to that as soon as available). 4. The idea would be first to have a look to the alignment of the high structures like Pixels Barrel layers in the degrees of freedom in which we are sensitive to. The expected rate in the pixel has been recently checked by Delhi group and in 2011 was ~0.11 Hz (BPIX). 5. Please prepare your software environment now to be ready to run the alignment immediately when we get the CRAFT12 data. You can test already now with the 0 T data. An example config file can be found at /afs/cern.ch/user/f/flucke/ALCA_TRACKERALIGN/MP/MPproduction/mp1046/ alignment_cosmics_0T.py For field-on data you will have to change from process.BrokenLinesBzeroTrajectoryFactory to process.BrokenLinesTrajectoryFactory and to remove the line process .AlignmentProducer.algoConfig.TrajectoryFactory.MomentumEstimate = 10.
